My Restless Brain…

Here I am, thanks to Daylight Savings, the clock reads 4:43 am, and I’m still awake…

But that’s fine, I think.  I started writing around 8 pm last night with plans to write two chapters, and write two more chapters Sunday plus the Epilogue.  I really want to get this done before Monday…I just feel like I need to.  I need to get this story out there for the whole world to read 🙂

As luck would have it, I did write two chapters “tonight” (it’s technically Sunday but whatever.  I don’t consider it tomorrow until I “wake up” in the morning haha), but I got so into the discovery writing, I ended up adding another chapter before the one that I was supposed to end with last night.  So now I have hopefully just 3 chapters left to write Sunday plus the epilogue.

Since my brain is abuzz and I can’t sleep, I’m going to try to write a little bit more.  Hopefully I can get some sleep before church tomorrow at 1 pm?  Haha!  I’m going to be tired…

But at least I’m trying to keep my goals on finishing this first draft 🙂 I did try to sleep, but my brain wouldn’t shut up, so here I am…still haha.  The story is getting intense and interesting and more complicated.  It’s developing quite nicely and I’m happy with it.  Of course I will need delve into it all again to do some heavy duty editing, but at least I’m getting the goal of “finish writing The Fall of the Sun done by the Sunday” done. 🙂

Since the two chapters I just wrote are located in the trees of Yosemite National Forest, here’s a picture of trees for your viewing pleasure 🙂iStock_000051580590_Large.jpg

“So Close I Can Taste It!”

I have “Emperor’s New Clothes” by Panic! At the Disco stuck in my head, but it totally works with my current thoughts on getting this book done!  I just added a new Chapter 3 with Mac’s point of view to edge the underlying conflict that is happening for the plot’s sake.  I shoved this one between the first few “Ashley” chapters so that the reader would get to know him a little better since the last time they read from his perspective was in the Prologue.

Basically to help “the flow” of the story work a little better so when I do more Mac and Ashley perspective swaps towards the end of the story, the Prologue wouldn’t seem so weird and random.

Here’s a pic of flowing water haha Do you get it?  Because the story is “flowing” better now?  Haha?  Alright, I’ll stop…

really want to get this story’s first draft done by Sunday.  I know I can do it if I push myself to write four chapters plus the Epilogue.  Tomorrow is Saturday so it’s possible, plus Sunday 🙂

You can totally do anything if you set your mind to it 🙂  I truly believe that!  I also believe that I can do anything with the help from God and Jesus Christ.  🙂  I wouldn’t be able to life without them!

The Full Moon Rose

Finally got the chapter done where the werewolves attack!  I know I want to add more to it, but for now, what I have written is good enough.  My brain is fried!  It is, once again, 2 am, so I have it at least written down 🙂  I will start the next chapter tomorrow 🙂 Only fourish left to go!

5 More Chapters! 5 More Chapters!

Just five more chapters until I finish The Fall of the Sun! YES!!!  Of course, that’s not including the epilogue, so technically 6 chapters…but the epilogue won’t be quite as long as a chapter.  It’ll probably be longer than the Prologue, but shorter than the normal chapter length.  It’s just to segue into Rays of the Moon which is the book that follows The Fall of the Sun.

I am THRILLED!!!  Chapter 11 is going to be such a fun chapter!  This is where all the crap hits the fan and all of the secrets that the “cursed” (referencing to what Mac calls what they are) show their true states and accidentally cause a scene.  Drama, drama, drama!  That’s what’s to come, but at least I won’t have to write as cryptically haha!  I wanted most of the book to be a little mysterious, but now I’m going to lay it all out for everyone to “see” (read).  Just as the song that inspired the chapter, “Skeletons” by Papa Roach says:

I can see myself in a broken reflection
This magnifies my imperfection
Beaten down, and I’m crawling, I’m craving affection
I’m afraid of rejection
Comfort in violence, suffer in silence
Lost in self deception
Is there no salvation?

Brick by brick I’ve built this wall
I shut you out to break the fall
I will shed my sins
I’ll show you my skeletons
One by one we cast the stones
Flesh and blood, and broken bones
Burn away the sins
We all have our skeletons

We all have our skeletons

I have lost myself in my addictions
There’s no faith in fear or self-destruction
Falling out, falling down
And I’m crawling to you to confess my intentions
Suffer the violence, comfort in silence
Lost in self deception
Is there no salvation?

Brick by brick I’ve built this wall
I shut you out to break the fall
I will shed my sins
I’ll show you my skeletons
One by one we cast the stones
Flesh and blood, and broken bones
Burn away the sins
We all have our skeletons

Brick by brick! Brick by brick! Brick by brick! Brick by brick! Brick by brick! Brick by

Skeletons!

Skeletons!

Brick by brick I’ve built this wall
I shut you out to break the fall
I will shed my sins
I’ll show you my skeletons
One by one we cast the stones
Flesh and blood, and broken bones
Burn away the sins
We all have our skeletons
We all have our skeletons

“We all have our skeletons” and yeah.  I’m excited to write this one 😉

Inspiration Comes at Weird Times…

Here I am with yet another 2 am writing session after not being able to find sleep.  I had been struggling with the Prologue of The Fall of the Sun for a while now and couldn’t seem to get it right…a few of my beta readers have stated that I should just omit it entirely, but I don’t want to since it has SO much to do with a lot of the underlying plot for the story and the following few books after this one in the series.

While I laid in bed, begging my brain to find it’s REM cycle, the phrase “Family means everything” popped into my head.  It was sort of a random thought, so I initially dismissed it.  Then, it came again:  “Family means everything.”  I listened this time around since I knew it wasn’t just my brain doing random things.  Connecting that thought with one of the main characters, Mac, and how he feels about his missing sister and losing his parents, I immediately knew I needed to have a chat with Daryl (my laptop’s name is Daryl Dixon, in case you’re confused) and try one more stab at the Prologue.  This time, the words flowed out almost like water and everything just fell into place.  The Prologue makes sense now and I was able to bring in the tragedy that was that night into the very beginning of the story through dialogue between Mac and his cousin, Ty.  I always wanted that night to be in the back of everyone’s mind while reading The Fall of the Sun because it not only effected Mac and his family, but Kristina, Rizer, Sawsha, Thief, and many other characters that won’t be mentioned until the Epilogue of this book and introduced in the following two books.

So, here’s a high five to Heavenly Father for the inspiration and helping me connect the dots to what He was referring to.  After all, I truly believe that what’s important to us, is important to Him, no matter how small the detail.  He knows that this Prologue is important to me and gave me a little help to make it work with the story.  I’m thrilled!  I feel like I can properly head to bed and sleep soundly without this bothering my sleepy brain.

Since Mac and his cousins are Polynesian, mainly hailing from Hawaii, here’s a little Sharpie doodle that I drew a while back.

Nighty night!  ZzzzzzzzZZZzzzZZzzzzZZzzzzzz…

The Beginning of the End is Still Only the Beginning…

So, I’m writing towards the end of The Fall of the Sun! I hope to be done by the end of next week!! WOW!  That’s super exciting!  Since it’s still the first book of a seven book series, it is only the beginning!  Which is exciting and intimidating because it’s like I have a ton more work to do…But that’s good, right?  I’ll have a lot to think about and have plenty of opportunities to be creative!

I’m having another LDS Beta Reader from the FB page review the Prologue – Chapter 09 and that’s exciting.  I’ll take the advice and critiques I get and use them as I feel like I need to. 🙂

I don’t really have much else to say besides that.  So here’s a cute picture of a Pug Puppy that I drew out of Sharpies for your enjoyment 🙂

Progress is Always Fun!

So, I’m a part of an LDS Beta Reading group on Facebook, right?  And I have someone on there reviewing the first half of The Fall of the Sun which I totally thought would the scariest thing ever!  Turns out, I’m having SO much fun reading his annotations and critiques on how to improve my work!  I love how at the end of his comments he writes, “Don’t get discouraged” and I appreciate that!  Except, I’m totally LOVING it!  Haha!  It’s more empowering and motivating rather than discouraging! Yay!

So, just finished Chapter 9, now I have Chapter 10 on my mind, which is the “calm before the REAL storm” chapter for those that are to come!  I mean, the story so far was just building up to these next few chapters, which is normal, right?

So, like most people (or at least some people out there haha) I have a name for my laptop where I do most of my writing 🙂  His (yes, he’s a he) name is Daryl Dixon.  Yep, that Daryl Dixon from the TV show The Walking Dead.  Let me be honest and say that Daryl is pretty much my favorite Walking Dead character besides Carl and Carol.  What I love most about great acting, is that I tend to “use” these actors’ and actress’ faces as references for my stories!  I always do this.  Before I can start writing, I “pick” a face to attach to one of my characters.  It helps me better visualize them and I’m also more able to describe them accurately when I write.  Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Melissa McBride (Carol), and Chandler Riggs (Carl) – all actors on The Walking Dead – have “faces” in my stories as various characters of importance.  I don’t necessarily do this on purpose, but when I think of a character and try to picture them, sometimes actors and actresses just fit the part so well!

It’s all just so awesome!  I’m having SO much fun writing right now!  I’ve taken a slight break from my artwork for now.  I’m really wanting to get this book done!  With the progress that I’m making on finishing the book, I’ll hopefully be done by next week or so!  HOLY COW!  That’s SOOOO exciting! I’ll have written my FIRST book soon!  Of course it’s only the first draft…then, comes editing and more editing before it’s publishable, but that’s all part of the fun!  Some of the better ideas come when I’m rereading my work anyways!  I can’t wait to see how this goes!
